synopsis: A Modern Ghost Story is the tale of the four members of The Cyclone Seekers, a group of semi-famous storm-chasers, and their harrowing adventures chasing after storms in Nebraska in 2006. On the way, they quickly come to learn that they have far, far more than tornadoes to worry about waiting for them in the storms. Something sinister is afoot, and their past may come back to haunt them in a very literal way.

genres: postmodern horror (?) with traces of comedy--fundamentally a road trip story, though, about healing and facing the horrors head-on.

vibes except it's not clear what these mean: late nights at sleepovers where no one wants to go to bed yet, a mason jar full of bottle caps, the highs and lows of a long road trip with your friends, strange messages on the radio in a voice you thought you'd forgotten, the past is always one step closer than it appears to be, the coppery taste of blood on your tongue, your heart pounding in your ears as the world roars around you, a group of queer adrenaline junkies, "therapy is expensive, but sitting in your car while it rains is free."

Roach - 29 - they/them - 5'2"

Roach is not the face of Cyclone Seekers, as they find the idea of actually appearing on camera daunting. For the most part, Roach prefers to stay behind the scenes, most often handling their budget, equipment, and transportation, as well as acting as their cameraman. A lifelong smartass, they always say exactly what's on their mind and they're not particularly graceful or tactful. Why would they be, after all? Talking around the point only wastes time, and Roach hates to stop when there's important shit to get done.

Despite their blunt and often rude nature, Roach has a big heart deep down, and they care deeply for their fellow Cyclone Seekers, considering the others their best friends in the world. Roach doesn't have a lot of people in their corner, and they're steadfastly loyal to the end.

Oliver Cox - 32 - he/him - 6'1"

Oliver, like Roach, is not the face of the Cyclone Seekers. Instead, he is the manager of their ViewTube channel and website, as well as the one who usually deals with the people side of things. He's very sweet and enthusiastic, and generally a very gentle man who hates to even raise his voice. While, like everyone else, Oliver has his moments of anger, he prefers to redirect this anger into something productive rather than taking it out on others.

This isn't to say, of course, that Oliver is an innocent child. He's had his fair share of hardships and struggles in his life. However, he believes wholeheartedly in the goodness of humanity and the world around him. And this extends to the team, especially Roach--despite their often prickly exterior, Oliver considers them a very dear friend and is very happy to have them in his life. He sees the best in everyone until they give him reason not to.

Sydney "Syd" Ambrose - 29 - they/she - 5'11"

Syd is a friend of Roach's from college, an extremely anxious person who, at heart, has always wanted to leave their mark on history in some way. With their thirtieth birthday rapidly approaching, they want to do something great before the big day. This has, in part, reflected on their work with the Cyclone Seekers. As one of two hosts of the show, Syd is often in the spotlight, despite their severe anxiety about public speaking. When the cameras are rolling, their fear falls away, and they easily steal the show.

Aside from their ambition to do something great that lands in the history books, Syd has had a lifelong fascination with storms. The world of more traditional meteorology wasn't for them, so they've decided a more fulfilling career is to chase storms around and study them directly. It's working out so far, despite Syd's growing restlessness regarding the group's lack of mainstream success.

Yara Key - 30 - she/her - 5'7"

Yara is the other host of the Cyclone Seekers, and she's the much more outwardly optimistic and outgoing one. Their bit on the show is that, though Syd is the anxious one, they're also first to jump headlong into danger just to get a good look at a tornado; Yara, meanwhile, is friendly and outgoing but also the first to hide. It's a good bit and one that brings her a lot of joy, though it does irritate her sometimes to have people assume she's actually a coward. Because she isn't--she's just not stupid.

Though Yara hasn't known the others that long, she's a loyal friend who cares about them all deeply, and her not-so-secret crush on Syd is something Roach teases her about rather frequently (to which she gladly responds by teasing them about their similar crush on Oliver). When it comes down to it, fame isn't important to Yara, but she has a genuine love for entertaining people. And if she can do it while educating them about dangerous storms at the same time? All the better.

Vincent Cruz - 28 - he/him (questioning they/them) - 5'9"

Vincent Cruz is not a member of the Cyclone Seekers, nor does he have any particular interest in joining their little group. In fact, he thinks they're pretty ridiculous, and more than that, they're fucking stupid. He's grown up his whole life in a small town in Nebraska and knows all-too-well how dangerous storms like the ones they seek out can really be. They're going to get themselves killed, and they'll be lucky if it's quick.

However, Vincent feels an obligation to help them, or at least to make sure they can't put themselves or anyone else at risk with their antics. He isn't sure what makes him feel such a desire to protect them, but he insists it's not out of any care for them. They're just stupid. If he doesn't do anything, then they'll die. Simple math. (Ignoring the fact that they're his first friends in years, and they seem to genuinely like him for who he is when few others do.)

Vulture - 31 - he/him - 6'2"

A mysterious figure from Roach's past, one that they, until now, were completely certain was out of their life forever. Vulture is cold and cruel and pretentious, seeing himself as quite literally better than everyone else. He loves to hear himself talk and wants everyone to think he's the coolest motherfucker in the room at all times, for better and for worse.

For the most part, he doesn't seem interested in Roach, for which they're grateful. However, he has been contacting them again for the first time in nearly ten years, asking to meet up again.

WIP Re-into: Inside

Cassidy stopped stirring her drink. "He was wearing a yellow tracksuit?" Ruby nodded. "Yeah. Apparently, he-" "-was jogging along the Hemet and Oak Avenue intersection, saw something in the underbrush along the sidewalk, went to investigate, and was never seen again?" "Uh." Ruby paused. "Yeah. Wait, I thought you said you haven't heard any news about the missing person case yet?" Cassidy gripped her drink so hard her fingertips turned white. "I, uh," she chuckled weakly, "I guess I did hear about it from someone." She didn't. She was there. In the dream she had last night. She was the one in a yellow tracksuit jogging along the sidewalk. She was the one that had seen a figure in the underbrush and went to investigate. She was the one that felt the air freeze around her, the feeling of ice-cold claws against her neck. But it's impossible to dream about a scenario of a person going missing and then the same events happen the next day to someone else, right?

Genre: Young-adult dark fantasy thriller

Summary:

The citizens of Noyal, California are happy that their small city doesn't usually attract much crime. Recently, however, strange disappearances have started popping up throughout the city. Most of the Fantasy Club members at Mountain Hills High School try not to think too much of it, they're just teenagers trying to survive high school after all. However, their club leader, Cassidy, is starting to have dreams relating to the murders. Dreams that are starting to come true. Soon thereafter, another member of the club comes across a girl who knows a little too much about the disappearances. Cassidy and the rest of the club suspect that something more supernatural is afoot. Using their leader's strange gift, the Fantasy Club work together to unravel the mysteries behind the disappearances and the connections the strange girl has to them.

alrighty gang, the quest for an up-to-date pinned post is always ongoing <3 i figured i'd put up a new (re)intro bc !! things change a lot lol

about.

My name is Cassian but I also accept Viscera as a nickname. My pronouns are he/him and I am rapidly approaching year 22 on this earth.

I have been writing since I was 8, so about 14 years now, but am still constantly evolving and learning and developing my skills - like any artist!

I've written primarily fanfiction for most of my life, but I have MANY ocs and original wips and I think 2025 is the year of finally focusing on them!

For original fiction, I write primarily fantasy, modern with magic, or hidden fantasy settings. I'm also discovering my love for writing erotica and filthy nasty sex, so that's ... what a lot of my wips feature or center around nowadays!

You can read my original work on AO3 here, and I am working to build a neocities site to cross-post on.

I still write a lot of fanfic, but the majority of it is rpf/band-based and not usually something I'm comfortable sharing here - though you're welcome to ask about it still if that strikes your fancy!

WIP Reintro: Red and Riotous Light

Status: seven morbillionth draft

Genre: historical fiction, gothic horror

Content warnings: gore, death, cannibalism, place & time typical bigotry, &c

The year is 1796 and the island of Ireland, once considered peaceable, is awash with sedition. In Belfast, the arrival of a mysterious Englishwoman whose defection to the French makes her a target of both curiosity and suspicion brings with her tidings of a prospective deal between a local United Irish cell and the French government: guns, and ammunition, sold at a premium price, delivered by a French ship. The only problem? The ship is arriving at the opposite side of the country, and these would-be insurgents need it where they are -- and the French said nothing about transport. Additionally, the committee seems to have had a suspicious number of brushes with authority lately. More than they used to. Hopefully someone isn't getting cold feet...

Meanwhile, in the isolated townland of Áth Síomóin, the arrival of a hapless new schoolmaster sparks the powder-keg the two sides of the area's sectarian divide have long been sitting on and leads, inadvertently, to the death of a Catholic of some consequence -- and, crucially, does not lead to the punishment of his killer. The resulting crackdown on Defender activity, facilitated by the arrival of another English visitor, is to be expected at first. However, as the situation deteriorates, it becomes clear that local agrarian resistance leaders have neither intent nor indeed means to capitulate, and all sides begin to adopt increasingly extreme measures in an attempt to win the seemingly endless feud. And there's also something off about some of the local children -- hearing voices, saying funny things. It can't be good for them, after all. All this bloodshed.

hey i'm chance! i've done a writeblr intro recently but i didn't like it, so this is take 2. here's the old one.

i tend to swear both on here and in my writing, so if you're sensitive to that, i don't think my blog or work is for you. i also use the word 'queer' a lot since i self-identify as such, when i do choose to self-identify.

i'm interested in so much, which would be impossible to fully state. there are so many new things out there and i love learning about them all!! this blog is mainly for writing but i'm not strict on that.

i also am pretty sure i'm neurodivergent (no diagnosis or anything yet) and tend to delve into hyper-fixations for weeks at a time. if i haven't posted for a while, it's probably because of one of my other hyper-fixations or school.

i'm going to college for my bachelor's in graphic design, which might make my responses during the school year delayed.

about me

i'm ann, a twenty-year-old writer from kerala, currently based in kochi

i live with my husband, who is a musician, and lead a very creative life of sorts

my wips

i recently finished a litfic novel called dairy whiskey and am editing it right now, hoping to get it ready for agent submissions in a month or two. i put my heart and soul and blood and bones into it, so if you’d like to dive into the story and read a few excerpts, you can check out the intro here and every other excerpt here!

rock salt is my main wip since finishing dairy whiskey. it is the story of identical twins rain and norah as they move out for college and navigate their lives on their own, which ends up in them growing apart. if you like complicated sibling relationships and the struggles of growing up, you’ll love this book!

i so badly want to start writing it, but i don’t think i’ll be able to until dairy whiskey is in a more secure position. so, there probably won’t be any updates for a few months, but you can read the wip intro here.

this is a gay vignette novel that i started writing back in 2021 as a source of personal joy. this is the story of how a singer-songwriter desperate for normalcy meets a boy with a heart heavy with guilt. this is the story of how they fall in love and it’s honestly quite wholesome <3

i haven’t worked on this book in so long and i’ve been trying to sneak some words in, but it feels like the book needs a fresh start. i don’t know, i just might start it all over again. but until then, here’s an outdated wip intro.

green room is a literary/experimental memoir documenting my teenage years as a writer. it is a deep dive into craft and how it affects life, particularly how it moulds you as a person. i haven’t started drafting this yet, but here’s a wip intro for now.

my main project that explores themes of growing up, loss, grief, forgiveness, and friendship. it follows Alex Ramírez, a seventeen-year-old senior in high school trying to navigate life after the death of his ex-boyfriend and best friend, Wally Fletcher. in the midst of it all, he reconnects with a former fling, Bea Mumford — a now pregnant sixteen-year-old whose boyfriend wants nothing to do with her and the baby — and attempts to earn forgiveness from Wally's little sister, Julia. if you like coming-of-age stories where the teenagers don't pretend to have everything figured out, this wip may be for you!

I've changed the title of my WIP to a more official/permanent one rather than a placeholder and I'm wondering if that warrants a WIP reintro....but how many times can you reintroduce a wip before it gets annoying...(swear I've done it like 5 times on this blog already)

It's 9:17 PM on a Wednesday night and I got a sudden burst of motivation. We are on version three of this outline, which will lead to the third or fourth draft depending on how you count. We are shifting the genre and the framing again. Still the same beloved characters, still getting closer to what this is supposed to be.

ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE WIP - the way of all flesh.

not to be reductive but i'm going to be reductive. i have a very vague outline (characters, basic idea of plot points, etc) but nothing super developed. the whole idea is to have a group of little freaks trying to find proof of a cure and the inherent struggling that comes with trying to survive in a dying world.

MECHA WIP - the patron saint of touch.

shamelessly copy pasting the few sentences i already have but -> pacific rim-esque mecha wip but instead of drifting with a living person you synch with all the previous pilots of your mech. also you don't stop after you get out of the robot they're stuck in your head. you are not told this before you do it. is this anything.

CYBERPUNK WIP - simulacrum.

started off as an if i wanted to make (what!!) but i fear that may be a lil too ambitious. basically what if the city you were living in was alive, and had a heart, and what if you communed with it when you were a child. what if it started to wake up and mess w/ the manmade tech baked into its skin. what if it started talking to you.

PIRATE WIP - warmth twice removed.

so basically every. waves hand. xx years a passage opens up that allows vessels into a freaky-scary ocean that ALLEGEDLY holds the gift of eternal life. or at least thats what everyone assumes. only one crew has ever made it close enough to know and they disappeared. it's also home to, you guessed it, freaky-scary monsters that WILL kill your ass and sink your boat. follows a crew as they try to find TREASURE!! and not get their asses killed

VAMPIRE WIP - varicose.

pov you're a vampire that was turned bc your maker saw, more than anything, how little you wanted to live. and he thought it'd be funny to force you to do it anyway. this is the strangest relationship of your life until you meet a monster hunter turned emergency room doc. something something they have to work together bc idk. there's a rogue vampire or something. just trust and believe it's going to be homoerotic and weird

FREAKASS CITY POPULATION THIS WIP - the altar of haven.

follows a group of climbers as they try to make it to haven's altar, a near mythical place on top of THEE tallest mountain in the world. there's a whole religion based on the idea that god resides at the peak and those who reach it will be blessed. everyone's got their own reason for being on the mountain (none of them are good) and the only thing they want more than to get to the top is to NOT tell ANYONE why they're there. surely this will end well!

ok heartfelt time. if you got to here thank you for reading all of these!! and hopefully voting! i really wanna do something for nano this year (i will not be doing it on the website however - independent tracker yay) but i cannot get myself to commit to a wip for longer than a week. i'm hoping the external. pressure? validation? idk but whatever it is fingers crossed it gets me to focus on something long enough to actually write it!

Writeblr Reintro

I would say I’m back but I’m really not. I’ve got important exams that will help me get into schools so I can do more important exams, maybe even more important than the first, so I can eventually do the most important exam and go to uni. Truly a win for the education system!

In the 6 months I’ve been dead I restarted my WIP, restarted my conlang, changed my naming conventions (and a whole lot of worldbuilding to boot) and subsequently renamed all my OCs. Go productivity?

The Basics:

This is a sideblog. My main is @nofuckingideawhatsgoingon which I follow, like and send asks from so if you see that url it’s just me :)

I don’t really care what you call me. I put Ling on my profile because I’ve gone by it before but do whatever. Maybe it’ll stick, maybe it won’t.

My pronouns are she/her and I’m cishet aroallo (probably). Would tell the queerphobic folks not to interact but that’s never really worked. But I do block liberally and with pleasure

I am still a minor. I will block primarily nsfw blogs but everyone else can interact as they please

WIPs: This would be the part where I link a WIP intro and maybe some character intros but unfortunately the WIP intro does not exist and the aforementioned renaming makes all the old character intros (all 2 of them I believe) basically obsolete. Will update this post with links when I make them so sometime between now and when I die, most likely
